THERESNOTOMORROW: Read This Today

THERESNOTOMORROW is unafraid to show his true colors. Banger after banger, the list is long for tracks that bap within his music catalog. Production choices are without mercy, relentless. The bass pounding heavily on each track morphing inside out, lyrics jump from serious to solemn and then build energetic distortion and original tones.
You can tell THERESNOTOMORROW and those surrounding him take their time to keep quality and originality at the forefront. You have never heard drums like this before, there's deep mechanized sounding percussion, crisp mixes, and balanced vocals. He has tracks with groundbreaking producers like, SKEPSIS, ARTHUR, PRXPHET, the list is actually too long to name names this time...just go listen for yourself. I had a chance to ask him a few questions about his music, check it out:

When did you first start recording your music?

I started recording my music after I dropped out of highschool, so 2nd semester of my senior year.

You changed your name recently, why?

People come and go on the daily, everybody acts like they have a for sure ticket to see the next day, but sometimes it's not like that. You never know when you're gonna be gone , so might as well live like THERESNOTOMORROW. + the name dezi was too simple

How did LSP form?

PRXPHET , & BAN$HEE created the group during freshman/sophomore year.  They added MISSYU & DENNYGLOOM within the next year, they had all been rapping/freestyling for a couple years now, and wanted to start something more real, more intense.
After that came AGHOST ,REY TOTEM and KENSHŌ. than around senior year came MOCHIE, BOLT & me. We also had a group of skaters (ATRAYU, JALEN, AND JIDDY+MORE) .

What outfits do you enjoy most?

Anything made by JHENNYCLOTHING
Lil' bro killing shit, and he just getting started.  WATCH FOR THAT JHENNY!

Where is LSP now?

Most of us are just spread out through Portland,OR and Vancouver,WA, 1 member in NY.

Can you talk about the song "Wrist Walk?" and what recording that was like?

It was easier than I thought, me and Dennygloom were making a lot of music together at the time, and I had just started producing. Me and Ban$hee made the beat a couple days prior, and we had been invited to an air bnb by the homies DEADPHONEDUMMIEZ, so we went and Bubba was there too. Me and Bubba always talked about making music but never had, so I showed him the beat and he was fuckin wit' it, I went and freestyled the chorus and Dennygloom wrote his verse, while I recorded Bubba.

Does your family support your music?

When I showed my mom my music, at first she cried. My parents aren't into the scene at all, but they support and respect it a lot.

Do you ever have to deal with people talking shit?

Maaan, I wanna meet someone who doesn't have to deal with that . Muthafuckas jus' get mad when they see someone with goals and inspiration, they can talk all they want though I just ignore.

How many tattoos do you have, what do you like about the process most?

I got 5 right now but my progress is coming along quick. Guess the best part of the process is finding where you want it trying out different spots to see what it look like.

How or what does music make you feel?

My music is the real side of me that people barely see, so it really just makes me feel like I'm being myself.

Do you prefer producing or rapping?

Rapping a lot more fun

Do you have favorite rappers/producers you work with or do you prefer working solo?

Shit, LSP always gon' be my favorite over all.
I don't prefer working solo, but I will if and when I have too.

What's next for THERESNOTOMORROW?

Working on 2 new albums, a couple music videos in the works, and plan to do some traveling to LA and NY. My music is going to drastically change from what I've been doing the passed 2 years, so be ready.

Any message to your listeners?

I love y'all the most. Imma try to interact more with everybody on social media so be on the lookout! New album soon!

All These Pieces Fit Together: Talkin' Shop with Jhenny

Jhenny makes more than hand crafted clothing, designs, and custom fits...he has brought people together in music. If you haven't heard of JhennyClothing, you've missed a big chapter in the current music story in the West, some of the best underground and well known rappers and performers rock JhennyClothing including: THERESNOTOMORROW, CATXSCAN, NASCAR ALOE, PRXPHET, KENSHO, and so many more.
I wanted to interview him because he has something unique for everyone, and all the pieces stay tastefully off the beaten path. He shared some really cool ideas with me:

The broken heart seen on many of your pieces, any story or person responsible for that?

I’ve been through a lot of heartbreak in my life so I felt like it was a very representative piece to help me express that feeling.
S/O to @epilept for the art.

When did you decide you wanted to make the idea of JhennyClothing into fruition?

I was 15 and I knew I wanted to make my own clothes, so I sold all of my old GameCube games to buy my first heat press and sewing machine.

Who was the first person who encouraged you to follow through with the idea?

Honestly, Myself.  I knew I had a lot of good ideas I wanted to put out into the world, and it felt like something I wouldn’t mind putting a lot of time and money into because I knew I would be good one day.

Care to share any cool merch stories from your beginning until now?

In 2017, I hosted a concert in San Diego and flew down a lot of my favorite SoundCloud rappers at the time, who to this day are still some of my best friends, and it’s honestly just given me a lot of opportunities to meet cool people and travel different places I never would have been to otherwise.

If you could collaborate with an artist or other clothing brand, do you have any already in mind?

Definitely, I would love to work with: Rozz Dyliams, Zillakami, Nascar Aloe and Stacy House. I have some stuff in the works right now with @deadanddetached , @femzart , and @bratb0y.

What is the most important part about JhennyClothing to you?

To always keep progressing forward and staying true to myself.

How has the response been from the public?

A lot of younger people, especially those in the fashion/music scene really like it. Most older people don’t really like it or “get it,” but they still appreciate my craftsmanship, and the quality of the clothes as well as the time I put in to make them.

How do your parents feel about your clothes?

My mom doesn’t really fuck w' my clothes. My dad doesn’t really understand it, but he’s still supportive and happy I’m doing what I love.

What’s your favorite part of the process?

Achieving a sense of pride. When I see the finalized product and I realize that all of my effort I put into creating it was well worth it.

What can we look forward to in the future from JhennyClothing?

I’m working on releasing full collections for the very near future. I’m also working on doing some pop-up shops in different cities and having my clothes sold more in store. Just really gotta put a lot of ground work in ya know?

Any message for your shoppers?

Whenever you wear my clothes, I want you to feel like you can get through whatever you’re going through, accomplish what you want, and it’s okay to be yourself.

-Jhenny.

Move over, Mavo is here.

Mavo is a name that sparks conversation, carries respect, and invokes curiosity in the rap/hip-hop underworld. Young but experienced, Mavo has been knocking out hits and underrated gems for years, operating with a huge collective of veteran producers and freaky talented rappers. Stumbling upon Mavo in your artists is like realizing your best friend sat one seat behind you, in all your favorite classes all year before you knew them.
Yo, real talk: if you rap and you think you have good cadence and timing, listen to some Mavo, then have a seat...this guy shreds. He might not have a lot to say  in my interview about behind the scenes stuff, but his lyrics and rhythmics hold up against the best in the game. I asked him a few basics and he hit me back with these:

When did you first start making music?

I started playing the drums when i was 9 and was in a band with my best friends. they played guitars, hip-hop came later.

What kept you doing it this whole time?

My friends passing really keeps my drive in tact, but its just something I’ve always wanted to do my whole life, I don’t know what else I'd do.
Do you think defining music into genres is important?

Not really.

Would you be able to name yours if they were?

mtphscs

Tell me the origin story of MTPHSCS, what does it mean to you?

Me and the original members are just really close internet friends and real life friends that just created they’re own language. mtphscs was created by me and dxct to bring together who we thought were the best producers and artists out making something special happen.

How do you select the instrumentals you use for your songs?

My friends send me stuff or I'll make something, (then) play different things til' I feel something happen in my head, then I know its the one.

What city are you in, what city are you from?

I’m in LA now, but I’m from Wichita, Kansas.

Your lyrics have a lot of soulful journalistic poet modes, did you study english/creative writing?

Yeah I was really into poetry in high school, and  did creative writing honors english, and just read dictionaries all the time.

It's like you never take a breath in some of your verses, are you the "one take" type of artist, or is it just well calculated production?

No I definitely take my time and make sure it's how I want. If I get it in one take- cool, but I don’t care. I just try get what I want, then move on.

You recently were featured on TOXIC's "RED LIGHT" album, what was recording "Alexa" with Toxic like?

Fun, it's always good feeling to make bangers with cool people.

Did you enjoy working with RJMCKINNON on the "Silver Bullet" visual?

Special times, it was a movie... shit was fun lol

Any new visuals in the works?
Yes my debut video “Angls” is dropping in a week or so and I’m very excited. more videos after that too.

Where do you draw inspiration?

Friends and disconnecting from music, it helps recharge my brain then come back fresh.

This only scratches the surface, but can you talk about what it's like working with so many outrageously talented producers like ARTHUR, ALFON ZAABERG, CANSINO, STILL, REPTILIAN GOD MANA, SUNI VEGA, and KING YOSEF?

All I can really say is that its something I hold very close to my heart, because they’re all friends so it's just everything great you know. I love making music that means something.

When do you think the music started really taking off for yourself and friends?

Probably MKULTRA , but that was just a demo. It hasn’t even taken off yet to me.

What can we expect from Mavo in the future?

Something that will last forever.
Message to the fans?

I love you and I appreciate your help on this long journey, I can’t thank you all enough.

Toxic wastes no time.

Here we have another strong dose from the music dealers. RED LIGHT is the latest destruction from TOXIC
6 tracks all produced by ARTHUR: so every beat knocks, the kicks are heavy, the bass lines have a demonic bite, the cadence is bouncy yet precise. A masterful short story, woven in rhythm and aggression, there's no escaping its musical grasp once you've started listening to Red Light. "Alexa Feat. MAVO" has to have one of the dopest bass lines I've heard in recent history.
Yes, this is all true about the latest release from Toxic, but there are more questions I had for him and his music...check out what he said...

So the new album Red Light is a powerhouse...anything to declare on this new project?

I just wanted it to feel disruptive, as well as a pivoting point for me to branch off into more immersive and personal projects in the future.

All the production is by ARTHUR, what's your writing process like with him?

Effortless. It feels like two people painting equal parts of the same canvas. We made everything in 48 hours, he’s rly incredible. Anybody who works with Arty knows he’s a cut above the rest.

Someone approaches you with a record deal and a heavy paycheck, your response?

Massively suspicious. I’d much rather be approached with an opportunity to make my own money than some 40 year old divorced guy named Keith offering me a shitty business loan acting like it’s gonna change my life.

6 tracks on Red Light, was it just a more focused feel or do you have more specific reasons for a smaller project?

I just have a bunch of things ready to drop this year and didn’t wanna oversaturate myself.

Do you feel like your relationships heavily influence your music/lyrical content , or at all?

Absolutely. My relationships with everyone in my life have an effect on my music. A lot of my music is about failed relationships, my disappointment in other people and my ability or sometimes lack of, to move on from those things.

You only have one feature on Red Light...

Mavo is just an elite rapper, there’s not much to be said. He’s an essential piece of the underground and If you’re not already aware of him, please do your homework.

Didn't Ryan McKinnon do the album art? Is this a hint of new visuals to come from y'all?

Nah, nothing to hint at in the future. It really only happened because we hung out with each other recently, I was in need of some album art and he really liked the songs. He’s incredibly talented, so it was sort of a no brainer.

When are we going to see some visuals and new merchandise from Toxic?

Big things in the works. Anybody who’s a fan has a lot to look forward to in the very near future, and for a long time after that. That’s all I can really say at the moment.

It seems like everyday you got a new jar, how much do you enjoy everyday?

I’ve actually been trying to cut back on weed/ drugs in general lately and have been doing great honestly. No more new zips everyday haha shit just gets redundant after while and i wanna do new things and be more focused as well as an attentive parent to my future children.

When you go to the bar, what do you order?

Usually just a shot of whiskey or tequila, unless the bartender or Sienna recommends something special to me.

If you were a dog, what breed would you be?

I’d prolly be one of those little ass dogs that thinks he’s a pit bull, lol. Sam Ryan says I think I'm 50 cent.

Do you have influences worth mentioning?

My friends, but there’s too many to mention, I don’t wanna leave anybody out. Rappers got big feelings.

Has anyone ever told you something while you were recording that blew your mind or that stood out for you?

I'm not sure about “blew my mind,” but me and an artist I work with by the name of Musie were actually just talking about the separation between people creating from an internal place compared to people drawing in from the external, and how those creative processes can be very different but both are equally valid in my opinion, it just depends on the presentation and who the artist is.

Are there songs that stand out as timeless for you?

Percocet and Stripper joint - Future
Gangland - Future
Run Up - Future

Can you give the meaning behind the death tarot card on the back of the album?

I feel really close with the concept and reality of death. My father passed when I was 3, and I haven’t stopped losing people since. I've known 12 people that have died just in 2018-2019 alone. So in one way or another, my own passing/mortality is constantly on my mind. I feel like I’m always on borrowed time or maybe time that i think other people deserve more so I try my best to make the most of each day because it absolutely might be my last, and I want to cherish that. It’s probably my more subconscious reason for slowing down on the drugs too.

What type of show do you enjoy playing most, what venues?

I like to be anywhere there’s a crowd of people ready to move around and have fun. I hate phone cameras and i hate people that pay admission to concerts just to say they went. I’d rather perform in front of 100 people that are genuinely happy to be there than 10,000 people just trying to curate their Instagram to make their life seem like it’s exciting.
